#FollowFriday – @hallieklecker and @bakingbeauties
If you use Twitter, you’re likely familiar with the hashtag #FF or #FollowFriday. For those of you who do not use Twitter, I guess you could liken it to a list of recommended Blogs to follow or a “roundup” of Gluten Free Bloggers.
I decided to adopt twitter’s #FF practice here on my blog. On Fridays, I will post a brief note along with the name(s) and link(s) of a Gluten Free Blogger. I will offer you links to the recipes I have tried (or ones I would like to try) and a brief description about what I enjoy most about their sites. I hope you enjoy my offerings.
This week, I’ve decided to highlight two Bloggers who post recipes that almost always end up on my Must-Make-List. I always look forward to getting recipes from both Hallie of Daily Bites and Jeanine of The Baking Beauties. Both of them have blogged for about 3 years and it is always interesting to see what new Gluten Free creations and flavour combinations they come up with.
First up, is Hallie of Daily Bites. Unfortunately I don’t have any of my own pictures for you but I made Hallie’s Cabbage & Apple Slaw with Tahini Dressing as a side dish to go with some grilled halibut last month and I just made her Crunchy Apple Chips yesterday. The Cabbage & Apple Slaw was easy to make (with the help of my mandolin). It paired perfectly with the grilled fish and everyone at the dinner really enjoyed the salad. I’ve actually made the salad a few more times since to have on its own for lunch.
Now, if the Cabbage & Apple Slaw is easy to make, the Crunchy Apple Chips are ridiculously easy. As Hallie herself says…
A little part of me actually feels like there’s something wrong with posting this recipe. It has just one ingredient: apples. The preparation process is a breeze: slice apples. Place them on a baking sheet. Flip them once halfway through the cooking time. Cool. Eat.
Hallie published her The Pure Kitchen cookbook recently. I haven’t managed to get my hands on a copy of the cookbook yet but judging by the recipes she posts on her Daily Bites blog, I imagine it would be a good investment.
Until I get out to pick up a copy of that cookbook, I guess I’ve got the following recipes on my Must-Make-List to keep me busy…Chocolate Chip Cookie Cupcakes and Flourless Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (a Guest Post on Simply Sugar and Gluten Free by Hallie of Daily Bites).
Now, on to Jeanine of The Baking Beauties. I’m not sure I’ve made any of Jeanine’s recipes yet but I am certainly going to have to rectify that ASAP. At this time, I have seven of her recipes on my Must-Make-List…
- Best Gluten Free Cinnamon Buns or Rolls
- Gluten Free S’mores Cupcakes with Toasted Marshmallow Frosting
- Gluten Free Rootbeer Float Cupcakes
- Gluten Free Vanilla Scones
- Gluten Free Mocha Waffles
- Big Fluffy Gluten Free Buttermilk Biscuits
- Crisp Gluten Free Pizza Crust
You really should check out Jeanine’s posting about how she started out as one of the Baking Beauties (plural) posting regular gluten-ful recipes, to become a single Baking Beauty with all gluten-free recipes. In that same posting, she mentions that she has about 350 gluten-free recipes on her blog. Phew, it’s going to take me some time to get through that list.
I urge you to stop by both Hallie and Jeanine’s sites and while you’re there, say hello and tell them I sent you. I also think you can’t go wrong by following these two amazing bloggers on Twitter or Facebook or whichever Social Media you prefer and of course, I would be just delighted if you were to say hello to me while you’re here and follow me too!
***BTW, do you like my little #FollowFriday Twitter badge? I created it myself
